George Beeler is Principal Architect with AIM Associates in Petaluma, CA. He is a pioneer in the green building movement beginning with passive solar houses during the 1970’s energy crisis. During the 1980’s he specialized in energy efficient pharmaceutical laboratories. For the last 20 years he has focused on the frontier of green building by aiming for genuinely sustainable solutions. George addresses all aspects of green including local resources, microclimate, indoor health and productivity, resource efficiency, regional planning, and other facets of regional and world ecological responsibility.
His projects include schools, offices, conference centers, wineries, mixed-use and affordable housing. His design for the Environmental Technology Center at Sonoma State University was a catalyst for green in the North Bay and won a grant from the National Science Foundation.
He is currently working on projects that aim for zero-net energy with a cost effective mix of energy efficiency providing 60% to 80% and on-site renewable energy the remainder. The next step is to achieve a zero carbon footprint for the full project lifecycle.
He has lectured at the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, American Solar Energy Society National Conference, American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy National Conference, Stanford University, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, PG&E Energy Center, International Facility Manager’s Association, American Institute of Architects, Construction Specifications Institute, and numerous green building training seminars.
